- What is Nomo?
Nomo is an advanced cloud-based telephone number parking and forwarding service, tailored specifically for people who want to cancel their home phone service but keep and continue using their landline number.
- Can I port a mobile number to Nomo?
Yes, but with some pitfalls:
1. You will be required to confirm your port out from the losing carrier via a confirmation text message. You must respond to the confirmation text within 30-45 minutes or the port will fail.
2. Nomo does not support texting. You will lose access to the ability to send or receive text messages to your number after porting into Nomo.
- Does Nomo support texting?
No. Texting is not within our scope of services.
- Who will benefit from Nomo?
Anyone who is paying for a landline phone simply to keep their home phone number. We understand your phone number can be part of your family identity. Your friends all know it. You’ve registered for multiple family services with it. But you have cell phones as well and you’re paying for all of it. You’ve wanted to cancel the number but always think about the hassle this is going to create for you.
We will port your number to us, cut your landline phone bill anywhere from 80-95% and give control over your phone number back to you. Through our app, you can forward calls from your home phone number to any phone number you choose, even up to 5 different numbers at a time. You can send all calls straight to voicemail which can be conveniently accessed directly in the app. You can also simply leave a greeting message for multiple purposes (if you’re going to be away on vacation, or if you’re planning on phasing out your phone number completely, for example).
If you’re missing calls regularly while you’re not home, if you spend too much of your time listening to every voicemail as they come in when you just wanted to hear an address or number again, if you simply want to stop paying so much for a landline phone number, then Nomo may be right for you.
- Can I still make calls using my number?
No. Our service is intended to forward inbound calls to another Canada or US number to receive calls.
- Where is Nomo offered?
Currently, Nomo is only offered in Canada and the United States.
Number porting availability may vary by rate center. We currently support over 15,000 rate centers.
- What does number porting mean?
Number porting is the process of transferring a telephone number from one provider to another.
- How long does number porting take?
Typically number porting takes 5 business days, but can take as long as 14 business days depending on the losing carrier.
We will notify you through e-mail when your number has finished porting. You’ll be able to configure your settings in the meantime so that when your number does port it will be instant, and you will not miss any calls or voicemails.
- Can I port my number away from Nomo?
Yes, this is your number, so you can port it anywhere you wish at any time. Porting your number out of Nomo will immediately cancel your service with us.
Please read more about our Cancellation Policy.
- How does the porting process work? Do I need to cancel services with my current provider first?
No, please do not cancel your services with your current provider. After your number has ported to us, your existing services with your current provider will automatically be cancelled. It is your responsibility to be aware of any contract cancellation expenses you might incur for cancelling with your current provider.
When opening the Nomo app for the first time you will first need to enter your home phone number to verify that the number is portable. After confirming the number is portable, there is a very simple form that will need to be filled out. You will need to provide us with some basic info about yourself, as well as provide us with a copy of a bill from your current provider that has been signed by you. We’ll need to collect a porting fee as well as the first payment (you can choose between monthly or yearly payments), and then we will handle the rest from there. You will receive an e-mail when your number has finished porting.
- Do I need to have a cell phone to use Nomo?
No, you can configure your number to forward to another landline or go to voicemail instead of a cell phone.
- Can I have multiple phone numbers through Nomo?
At this time we do not support multiple numbers for a single user.
- What if I paid for a year, but I want to cancel my service early? Will I get a refund?
Please refer to our Cancellation Policy.
- Will I be able to see the number of the person calling me?
Yes, if the Caller ID and/or Caller Name is available, it will be transmitted through during the call forwarding process.
Note that some carriers may block this functionality, and in this situation you will be able to see the Caller ID and Caller Name, if available, within the Call Logs tab of the Nomo web app.
- What can I do about spam calls?
Nomo comes with Spam Call Filtering built right in. You can adjust the threshold setting directly within the Nomo app to be more aggressive about blocking spam callers.
- Who created Nomo?
Nomo was developed by Prairie Voice Networks, a small Canadian company that specializes in VOIP based telecommunication and making life easier for their customers.
